This leadership role focuses on multi-unit residential building projects, primarily mid to high rise structures with a strong emphasis on concrete and steel systems. 

As a Team Lead, you will manage a team currently consisting of five professionals, oversee technical excellence, and drive operational success. You'll play a critical role in project delivery, resource planning, client relationships, and mentoring future leaders. This position demands a highly qualified engineer with proven leadership experience and a deep understanding of structural design for complex multi-residential projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a positive team culture 
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members within the structural team, including Project Leads and Employee Leads 
  • Conduct regular check-ins and offer guidance to team members, even in indirect reporting structures 
  • Oversee team performance, including preparing and reviewing fee proposals, prioritizing work, and allocating resources 
  • Chair team meetings to ensure alignment and progress. 
  • Support business development efforts, maintain strong client relationships, and serve as a backup point of contact for client concerns. 
  • Manage invoicing for projects and monitor project financials 
  • Develop project schedules and forecast team workload to ensure capacity planning 
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to Project Leads on structural design and best practices. Provide cursory review and (double) stamp as required/applicable 
  • Act as a Project Lead, in a reduced capacity, to meet divisional needs. 
  • Lead technical oversight for structural design of multi-unit residential buildings (MURB), ensuring compliance with OBC and CSA standards for concrete and steel structures. 
  • Provide guidance on structural systems selection (e.g., flat plate, shear walls, transfer slabs, composite steel framing) for multi-unit residential projects. 
  • Coordinate with architectural and other consulting disciplines to address challenges unique to MURB projects, such as podium structures, parking levels, and load transfer conditions. 
  • Review and approve structural details related to high-rise construction, including lateral load-resisting systems and foundation design. 
  • Mentor team members on best practices, including constructability and cost optimization. 
Skills/Qualifications for the Position
  • Effective team builder and team player with demonstrated ability to motivate and work collaboratively with all levels of staff 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High integrity, confidentiality and professionalism 
  • Strong time management and prioritization with the skills and ability to adapt 
  • Licensed with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng) or limited license holder with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) 
  • Demonstrated experience in structural design for mid to high rise residential buildings 
  • Strong knowledge of concrete and steel design principles, including CSA A23.3 and CSA S16
  • Familiarity with lateral load analysis for tall buildings (wind and seismic considerations)
  • Experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams on complex multi-residential projects

Compensation

This is a full-time position with a salary of $110,000 to $130,000 and annual performance bonus. SBM offers a positive working environment and a good relationship with our employees translates directly to better customer service and a superior finished product for our clients. The successful candidate will typically work 8AM - 5PM Monday to Thursday and 8AM - 2:30PM on Fridays.
