SBM is seeking a motivated and experienced Mechanical Technologist (Plumbing) to join our Mechanical Engineering Department in London or Kitchener. This role supports the Plumbing Division in the design and delivery of projects across the residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors. 
The successful candidate will assist in preparing detailed plumbing drawings for permit and construction, coordinate with clients and consultants, and contribute to the overall success of each project through proactive communication, organization, and technical diligence. The position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, while also taking ownership of independent project tasks, design documentation, and site coordination responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting or designing of plumbing systems and components such as gas piping, below and above grade sanitary and storm system piping, domestic water systems, pumps, etc.
  • Coordinate with the project lead, engineering team and other design disciplines as required.
  • Assist with engineering analysis, evaluations, designs, and implementation for plumbing systems.
  • Work through construction support issues with design team and contractors.
  • Occasional site visits as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Team Leads or Division Manager.
  • Accept technical guidance from designers, technologists, and senior staff.
  • Assist with Project Coordination duties such as logging, plotting, issuing drawings, etc.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Mechanical Leads or Division Manager.

Qualifications:

  • 0-4 years of relatable experience in building design, specifically plumbing design and/or installation.
  • Diploma in Architectural Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technologist or equivalent.
  • Experience working with other design professionals within the building/construction industry.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office; Revit considered an asset.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth; willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.
  • Admirable problem-solving skills and initiative.
  • Capable of working on and/or managing several projects at the same time.
  • Eligibility for registration with OACETT considered an asset.

Enjoy a balanced 40-hour workweek of 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and an early finish at 2:30pm on Fridays. Join us in an environment where collaboration, support, and personal growth are at the heart of everything we do. The salary range for this position is $63,000 to $80,000.
