SBM Geomatics Ltd. (SBMG) is currently looking for a full-time Geomatics Tech I (Office) to join our team in the London office. Reporting to the OLS or Project Manager, the Geomatics Tech I may assist with a variety of survey office functions, including calculations, data adjustments, plan preparation for topographic surveys, construction layout, site control plans, differential leveling, boundary retracements, as-built verifications, quantity verifications, and control networks. They will work alongside other geomatics, engineering, and design staff on cadastral, land development, and engineering projects using Civil 3D and other design tools. The Geomatics Tech I will be involved in a variety of projects, with exposure to all stages of a project, from conception through to construction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Project Managers in all aspects of project delivery including processing field data and computer-generated survey information as well as performing legal survey calculations to accurately establish or re-establish boundaries
  • Draft legal plans (Plans of Survey, Reference Plans, Plans of Subdivision and Condominium Plans, pre-engineering, and topographic plans).
  • Prepare Lot Grading Plans, Excavation Stake-Out Plans, along with SRPRs and reports
  • Ensure plans are in compliance with provincial acts and regulations (Survey Act, Surveyors Act, Land Titles Act, Registry Act, etc.)
  • Coordinate design and drawings with other team members and consultants
  • Research Land Registry Office (LRO), Teranet and PIMARC to complete documentary evidence collection on projects, as required
  • Prepare and complete the preparation of project files for SBM Geomatics staff
  • Pre-process data for the layout/collection of field evidence for field crews
  • Adhere to strict quality control practices and safety policies
  • Review and check daily downloads of data, check field notes and sketches for completeness
  • Process field data for accuracy; complete checklists for processes and prepare data for calculations/CAD drafting review with the Project Lead
  • Prepare survey plans as required (Surveyors Real Property Report, Plan of Survey, Plan of Subdivision, Plan of Condominium in draft or final form)
  • Prepare staking instructions for building layout/monument planting
  • Check all field layout notes for accuracy and completeness and updating checklists accordingly
  • Interpolate collected data from GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors and a variety of levelling equipment using various survey methods and software
  • Communicate errors, problems, and questions to the OLS
  • Correspond clearly with the Project Lead to ensure smooth operations in the field and office
  • Occasional site work as required, however role will be primarily office-based
     
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Geomatics/Surveying Program, Civil Engineering Technician, or Technology program, or equivalent experience
  • Eligibility for registration with OACETT; C.Tech. or C.E.T. designation preferred
  • A valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel for site inspections and field work as required
  • 3+ years of experience in drafting cadastral survey plans within Ontario
  • Experience in drafting pre-engineering topographic surveys would be an asset
  • Experience in reviewing Land Registry Office title documentation (PINS, block maps, instruments, and plans)
  • Strong ability to analyze situations and develop effective solutions, including being able to Interpret a variety of plans, deeds, sketches, construction and architectural drawings, and maps
     
  • Excellent drafting skills, including strong knowledge and proficiency in Civil3D, AutoCAD, MS Word, Outlook and Excel is required
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth with a willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and in a collaborative team environment, prioritizing multiple projects and tasks in a dynamic working environment
